Wolf von Beckerath


born March 18, 1896 in Krefeld, died December 28, 1944 in Brühl was a painter.
 

Father: Hermann von Beckerath (11.7.1845 – 19.11.1912)
Mother: Emilie von Beckerath born te Neues (18.11.1862 – 23.12.1966)


Wolf studied philosophy and history of art at the University Bonn from 1914 to 1915. 1915 he was called up and took part in the first world war until ist end. After that he continued his study in Heidelberg and Freiburg and terminated it in 1921.


From 1921 to 1923 he joined the Krefeld school of arts and crafts. Lateron he spent various informative stays in Munich, Berlin and Paris. Until his further call-up to the army in 1939 he lived as a free painter in Krefeld. His works and pieces cannot be integrated into a specific way of painting or school. Wolf von Beckerath was killed already in the age of 48 years on occasion of an air-raid in 1944.


The city of Krefeld honoured his life-work with an exhibition in the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Museum in 1948.
